ABOUT

MISINFORMATION IS LIKE A VIRUS.

We are in the age of 24 hour information overload. Along with the Covid 19 pandemic we have been in an Infodemic for the last 2 years. This is where an excessive amount of information about a problem that is typically unreliable, spreads rapidly, and makes a solution more difficult to achieve. This has made it increasingly harder to separate truth from fiction, which in turn has sown chaos around the world.

The National Misinformation Service is a satirical pop-up pharmacy which reveals how misinformation acts like a virus. Using this metaphor, the visitor is invited to get an inoculation against misinformation. Each inoculation dose is a tweet sourced from twitter. The visitor gains cognitive antibodies against misinformation by reading the tweet and the explanation behind it. Through this process the visitor learns how to detect common manipulation techniques used to spread misinformation online. So that in the future, they will think differently about what they see online and not spread misinformation.
